At the Warriors Fund, we deeply appreciate the sacrifices made by our nation's veterans. While our primary mission may be different, we acknowledge the importance of providing resources that can assist veterans on their journey after service. Education is a crucial part of that journey, and there are numerous programs available to help veterans further their education. Here are some educational benefits and resources for veterans:
GI Bills
- Post-9/11 GI Bill: If you've served on active duty after September 10, 2001, you may qualify for the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33). It can cover the full cost of in-state tuition at public colleges for 36 months, and provides a monthly housing allowance. Learn more about the Post-9/11 GI Bill here.
- Montgomery GI Bill: The Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) provides up to 36 months of education benefits to eligible veterans and servicemembers. This can be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeships, and more. Read more about the MGIB here.
Additional Programs and Grants
- Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E): If you have a service-connected disability that affects your ability to work, VR&E (Chapter 31) can help. This program assists with job training, employment accommodations, resume development, and job seeking skills coaching. Learn more about VR&E here.
- Yellow Ribbon Program: This program can help you pay for higher out-of-state, private school, or graduate school tuition that the Post-9/11 GI Bill doesn't cover. More about the Yellow Ribbon Program can be found here.
- Scholarships: There are many scholarships specifically for veterans and their families. Websites like Military.com and American Legion provide extensive lists of available scholarships.
Educational Counseling
- Educational and Career Counseling (Chapter 36): This program offers free educational and career guidance, planning, and counseling to veterans and their dependents who are eligible for a VA education benefit. More about this program here.
Remember, each program has its own set of eligibility criteria and application process. We strongly encourage veterans to explore these resources and understand these requirements better. If you have further questions or need assistance, please contact us at the Warriors Fund. We're here to support you on your journey to furthering your education.
